Thats not in the script
01.27.04 (9:20 pm)
 Work,work,work....I can hear the gremlins drumming away in my head. Pesky little creatures, kept me awake last night...

Scouring the net for free scripts or one that can teach me how to set up a response form which the user can email via a webpage. I have one in place but it does not preview the users input.

I'm looking for one that previews first then sends it via email. The scripts with preview functions (the ones I've found) require payment...some are bloody expensive.

So web-developers unite! If you have a script lying around, do let me know.

Finished my latest project : evenstarr.com, quite happy with the basic work. Most of the images was taken using my trusty Olympus C730 UZ digital camera. The blur effect on some of the images was not my handiwork.

Work, work, work; nuts should send these gremlins to Mars.

Troubled Times
01.26.04 (8:44 pm)
I'm a big fan of football, sad to hear another player dead. Feher rest in peace.

Makes you think about the times we live in now. People are dying at a young age, wars are common place, famine, floods, etc.

Not the type of world you want to bring your children into. But humans survive when faced with calamities. We thrive in it, we grow under it, we conquer them. Without troubled times we become lazy, complecent, sluggish couch potatoes.

We stop living life and merely relegate ourselves to becoming passive spectators to the game of life. A life that in essence causes us to slowly de-compose.

So troubled times make us reflect and look forward. It steels our human will (a will that can't be cornered), makes us more super-human than human and gives us that fresh breath of adventure that we naturally have.

I live so that I can live life to the fullest.

Office Potato
01.25.04 (11:17 pm)
8) Back in the office after a rather long break. CNY here will forever be remembered for one thing - rain.

It rained and rained through-out the weekend. Certain parts of the city was under-water last night and some office mates couldn't come to work due to the fact that their houses were flooded.

Didn't do much, except visit friends on the first day and second day. Then stayed home finishing off a website project plus watching National Geographic reruns on the landing of the second Mars Rover.

In response to my previous blog (look below), an anonymous person mentioned that in Islam, women should dress decently. I support the fact that women should dress decently, I can't imagine my wife walking around half naked but look at the state of our own women artist (check out URTV covers). Why harp about a foreign act when the ones here are on par with them (in terms of dressing)? I think Bahrain or Saudi Arabia allowed her (Mariah Carey) to perform without much comments. In that respect I can only wonder.

It is then a moral issue and not so much a religious matter. Moral issues should be address as moral issues that affect everyone not just a particular group. If this is high-lighted as a moral issue, I am sure many will take up the call.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of Mariah Carey so not really bothered whether she comes here or not.

Happy Chinese New Year
01.20.04 (8:50 pm)
:D Gong Xi, Gong Xi,

Wishing all my Chinese mates a Happy Chinese New Year!

What I look forward to ever CNY is the RED packet. But this year the red packets are coming from me...what to do? I can see the kids lining up on my doorstep --- That does not include you squid and you spoonfork. Weichun, get from your parents le and berelain...claim your packet from weichun.

Having a small re-union dinner at my mum's place eventhough the only chinese in the family is my wifey. Steamboat...yippee. So I'm skipping lunch today and saving all that tummy space for the sea-food-goodies that will be there this evening. My wifey went hunting for food-stuff this morning and I know crab was on the menu...yum,yum...

Mariah Carey is suppose to perform in Malaysia but PAS (the islamic-opposition party) is in up-roar. Haiyo, lame excuse cause they have nothing to harp about with general elections coming. Check out Oliviasy blog on this.

I am actually not that worked up about it cause I'm not a fan but if they banned people like Sting, Creed or Linkin Park then I'd set up a separate blog just to kutuk bad-mouth PAS.

Anyway, take care and enjoy the CNY holidays.

What a bummer
01.19.04 (8:36 pm)
 Really not feeling well today, should have called in sick but some matters at the office cannot wait. Plus, I had to pay a parking fine today. So I have dragged myself to the office, with the hope that by the end of the day I would have infected enough people that they have to close office for a few days.

Chinese New Year is on Thursday. Really looking forward to sleeping in late but I have to make my rounds to my chinese friends. Hopefully, I can manage that this Thursday. I can go around and infect more people...muahahahahahahaha.

Interesting how the gomen will approach this matter. Malaysia once said that it will not censor the internet but I believe that some measures are needed.

Thinking of Phuket?

Need another holiday?

This guy was too smart or was he an idiotic genius?

Teh Tarik and Tosei
01.15.04 (6:17 pm)
 For un-known reasons I am craving teh tarik and tosei - Penang style. Haiyo, where to find here on this island of Borneo? Now that is a business opportunity, sell authentic teh-tarik with real tosei and money would grow on trees.

Bet you guys never rode this one before.

Thailand following in the steps of Malaysia, say they may have something that will stop the spread of the AIDS virus. Malaysia made millions , a few years back, when they sold the patent for their discovery to an American company.

Death penalty should include burning at the stake.

Never leave home without one.

Singapore Boleh!

AFTA - Another Fat Talking Acrobat-stunt
01.13.04 (5:31 pm)
My two cents on the AFTA thingy.

I know Spoonfork and Zain have bitched blogged bout it but I must say it's all a sick joke from the government. Yup, get your Vespa.

Why did Malaysia defer to joining AFTA in the first place? If I remember correctly, our PM (the previous one le) mentioned that it was because we wanted to strengthen the local car industry. Once we are strong we can then compete with the imported Asean cars (so we are made to believe).

The gomen was willing to be penaltied for not joining AFTA earlier (how sweet of them). This gave the impression that the gomen would loose money if it joined. Giving rise to the notion that cars would be cheaper once we join AFTA.

Now, looking back I believe that the gomen were, themselves, as confuse as Britney when they said, "i do". They did not fully understand the whole scheme of things - a certain lady minister comes to mind. Why get penaltied when if you joined early you might get more - duties, tax? They either did not know or they knew.

I believe it was a case of "I'm not sure but lets see first". expect car prices to go up even more. Yup, why? Gomen have not actually specified the hidden tax rates yet.

:arrow:This is despite continuing confusion over the exact calculation of the excise duties imposed by the government to offset the decline in revenue due to the reduction of import tariffs. Most of the industry players are still sorting out the confusion [Extracted from here]

They did not honestly inform the public but rather gave sketchy impressions which allowed us innocent, law-abiding, ballot-paper-graffiti-art ists come up with our own conclusion.

"Wah, car cheaper after AFTA, eh AFTA? Nuts, what is AFTA?"

So, now it is up to market forces to determine car prices - a certain lady minister's statement. Forces of demand and supply, fair competition and all that stuff.

In some dinky, smoky room in Putela Jayo, some jack-arse economist is giggling away. A blooper has now turned into a big money maker for the money-lenders.

Snooping about
01.12.04 (10:09 pm)
Thats the way to go uncle.

I'll keep this in mind, since I am living next to an airport.

I have been snooping about, looking at websites of music artiste. I find ,Linkin Park's website totally rocking. Sting's virtual presense is soulful, Ferhad, a Singaporen singer, cool and "R&B"-ise.

What sells a website? Bands like Linkin Park hosts blogs for their fans. Creed is liberal about sharing out their lyrics and U2 provides album downloads that span the 20 years that they've been around.

I guess we can learn somethings here. When you want to gain popularity, you must be willing to give out freebies. Whether it is in cents or just plain blood and flesh.

Like the big time triad-leader dishing out RMs to his friends in the blue uniforms, the scheming latoks paying for the golf lessons, that drooling-dumb-baboon "sucking" up to the bald-fake-dentures boss for a promotion....we all have our stories.

cheers,

Annoying Things (Monday's list)
01.11.04 (4:53 pm)
Waking up on Mondays, finding Homer Simpson next to you (this one totally fictitious....)

Driving to work and running into a police road-block at 7.50am (office hours 8.00am - 4.30pm)

Parked car, step out the door and foot gets stuck in mud (stupid road construction)

Sitting in front of my Mac and I'm totally stoned. It's a Monday morning and I have yet to have coffee.

01.09.04 (6:21 pm)
Office politics is a dirty game. It's dirty and undermines the ones that scrap the scum of the bottom of the barrel so that some top-level ape mutant can look good.

For some time I have been avoiding getting worked up with all the politics at the office but the butter has been spread too thin (lately). For me getting ahead by stepping on peoples toes is not a good thing. What goes around, comes around. No point being on top when your reputation is scum-bottom-level. No point elevating yourself high when the only official post you held was that of pencil sharpener.

When talking to a friend about these things, I got a rather cliche answer,"Life sucks". I replied,"Life doesn't suck, it's the people who suck". Life is beautiful (we humans) mere-mortals make the infinate im-mortal, ugly.

I choose not to get involve with these pesky power struggles cause I've got better things to do.

Like (among many things) taking the trash out for my mum, fixing that play-pen for my wife (still haven't figured that out), taking promo pictures for my brother's up-coming music band (pro-bono style), cleaning up my side of the bed (I've got bills from 1999 lying about) and giving my dad a back rub.

The Zero Telegraph
01.08.04 (8:34 pm)

According to the news caption (it is in Bahasa Malaysia), this is a bunch of Japanese businessmen asking for blessings from a Shinto priest. Among requests is that their networks do not get infected by viruses.

Just shows that when virus shields do not work you can always turn to the divine. NO, God does not look like Bill Gates!

Tips for the photographer in us all. The Three Step Method is the mantra that must be spoken when taking pictures.

Now, take a deep breath, clear your mind and repeat after me, "Know thy subject", "Focus attention on thy subject" and "Simplify". Should be repeated three times a day, after meals and when drinking water.

Yeah! Admit it, you were,am,will be a fan. Absolute Ultraman is jam packed with info on the only big time super-hero from Asia, Ultraman. Like there were 30 of those ultra dudes running around Japan, beating up monsters senseless and passing the city's repair bills to the government. GREAT job! Any vacancies for ultra number 31?

Firebird Away
01.07.04 (8:49 pm)
8) As an Apple user, we are limited in our software resources. So it warms my heart when software providers provide their software free-of-charge. Not just some lame demo-commercialware-click ware freebies but rather solid, reliable software. That's why I am really happy to browse the net using a browser called Firebird 0.7.

This browser rocks. It makes the one from Mangosoft look like a used broken down crank-up-bullock-cart. It's memory imprint is small, so it doesn't take up much ram. And it's blazing fast!

Though it is version 0.7 and it does mentioned that it maybe is un-stable, I find it performs well (so far).

The tab-browsing feature may be new to some but once you get used to it, you can't live without it. It fits my mode of browsing, I tend to open 5-10 windows at one go.

The interface is clean and "cute". An alternative view to the one from Mangosoft. Get it my friend.

The Tide is shifting
01.06.04 (7:39 pm)
:? Well, just got back from an appointment from the eye doc. I have to live with some scarring of the eye. This partially affects my eye-sight by reducing the clarity of things I see. It could have been worse so I am not complaining that much, I have gone beyond that stage.

In other news, Najib (Defence Minister) is now the Deputy Prime Minister.

He (Najib) used to hold the education portfolio and kinda made a mess of it. He was then sifted over to the Defence Ministry portfolio. Traditionally, the DPM will take over from the PM when the PM steps down, so this is a big leap for him. But can you trust a military guy to run a country? Have to wait and see on that one.

The stuff talking on Britney is taking up a lot of Internet bandwidth! Maybe should start a blog on Britney bashing....hm.

Only in Malaysia
01.05.04 (8:51 pm)
:!: No mini-skirts in opposition led Terengganu has been a hot issue here in Malaysia. I give them credit for putting Malaysia in the news spot-light.

I mean we Malaysians love to be in the news. We have the tallest twin towers, 3rd longest bridge in the world, largest ketupat, widest to-sei, no-mini skirt ruling, etc, etc. Heck, we even have a silent ban for artist-with-long-hair from going on national television.

Jeff Ooi has done a fantastic write up on the mini-skirt issue.

Malaysia Boleh!

2nd week stress
01.05.04 (5:17 pm)
:( Mid-week stress is setting in for me. Conference websites to up-load and post-Christmas bills to pay.

Haiyo! Things come in thick and fast. Faster than Britney saying "I do" and then "Opps, I did it again". In the words of Bilbo Baggins "I feel thin, like too much butter over bread".

Wished that NASA could dump all the money they gave the rovers on me. Life on earth has reached a rather mundane state that we are now looking at other worlds...

living in the colour of blue
01.03.04 (10:25 pm)
:?: Ever had mental flash-backs?

Those memories that you wish you can forget but they always seem to be just around the corner?

Had one, remembered someone that I once was "in love" with. Guess that in one corner of my heart, I still wonder the "what ifs". What if we did things differently, would we still be together today? Would things have worked out?

I'll never know.

Paths diverge and I took the one least travelled - Robert Frost.

Anyway, yipee for the NASA rovers. They have touched down on Mars and the search for alternate life has begun.

NASA spent $820 million to send the rovers to Mars. That's like betting on a lottery, if you win; well good, if not - too bad. If we do hit this cosmic lottery - what then? For all we know it, we might just do what we are good at when it comes to alien life-forms. We might dodo-list it.

IT's the first Saturday of 2004
01.02.04 (5:03 pm)
 Recovering from the after shock of 2003 and now we're in 2004.

What lies ahead for me? Really don't know.

This year I have not made up any resolutions. Due in part to the fact that I never keep them. No, this does not mean I am some sorry leave-it-to-fate-fella, I am of the opinion that I won't bind myself to guilt when I realize that I did not keep my resolutions. Get it?

Instead, I will make strategic-life-altering-p lans. Sounds more techie plus it's more structure then just plain resolutions. Resolutions are an end in itself, Plans have end in mind and means to get there.

Bum1: I resolve to get a job.
Bum2: Really, thats what you said last year.
Bum1: This year I'm serious
Bum2: Duh, how are you going to do it?
Bum1: Well, I'm not sure. Just gonna bum it here and see what happens....what about you?
Bum2: Reading the paper to see if I can get a job...thats my plan for the year

I have nothing against those who have resolutions but this is my way of kicking my own arse so that I'll do what I intend to do rather than make wish-fool talk.

A late friend of mine told me to "Do what you must". Joe, I'm living those words and to tell you the truth you were right all along. God bless you mate.
