BABY RYAN
06.26.04 (5:20 pm)
:D Ryan Asher Maclean (sori le Squid) arrived last night at 10.30pm after letting me wait for 8 long hours. Long labour but quick delivery, he caught the nurses by surprise. At his age he's already pulling in surprises. Weighting in at 3.47kg, he's a heavy-weight and a tough cookie.

Thus, begins my journey into fatherhood. One that will take me into un-chartered waters beginning with the fact that my mum-in-law is coming today at noon....

Anyway, peace to all. Thanx for all the congrats and love. Can't do without you all. Now I'm off to clean the guest room for my mum-in-law.....okle must impress her-wan...

It is a hot day
06.24.04 (11:24 pm)
Finally manage to blog. Have been away from the office conducting workshops for various people.

It is bloody hot plus there is a slight haze. It's that time of the year again where the haze would descend on us poor oxygen breathing mortals.

Wifey is coming along well now. There is still 5 more days to the due date. Count-down has begun and I am beginning to show anxiety. Can't wait for junior to come. At least once he is out things all anxiety can float away.

Man, it's so hot. I need a cold drink.

2nd in the block
06.17.04 (4:27 pm)
I've settled in to using this 2nd hand notebook - DELL Latitude L400, which I skim off for about RM3500. I can't afford any new stuff at the moment so 2nd would do.

Beastly little notebook, set it up to run Litestep plus a few modules and it looks like something from Startrek. Thinking of pumping up the RAM to 256MB or maybe 512MB if I can afford that.

Among other things, I have work piled up on my desk and not brain-power to go round. The organisation thinks that I can solve every website problem (yes, I am the webmaster) plus throw in some training workshops (yes, I am also a trainer) and still keep focus while wifey is due at any moment.

You know what, they should pay us not base on qualification but rather on the amount of stress that one can endure. At the end of the day we mere mortals are just surviving through the day.

Ok, I think I screwed something up with this notebook while writing this-was installing something and writing this at the same time....

Death penalty for snatch thieves
06.16.04 (6:56 pm)
It's being plastered all over the news. People are calling for action against snatch thieves. I personally think that they should be given the death penalty especially if they cause death.

But again it may be a micro-vision of a much bigger problem. People who turn to crime are motivated by the quick gain syndrom. They probably want a quick buck regardless of how they achieve it.

The Malaysian society is built in an almost caste-like system with some groups receiving monetary assistance and incentives. This cause an economic divide in terms of money but it also cause a psychological divide.

The group getting all the assistance have become lazy. Looking for the quick gain rather than looking for the long term benefit of hard work and persistance.

I see that the current gomen is trying hard to move this priviledge group by taking away some of this assistance. Raising the bar on such things as university entrance - now applicants must sit for an exam of sorts and by allowing a more open-fair business environment for would-be businessmen. This gomen practically wants the people to start working for their stripes.

Anyway, thats my two cents on the reasons why people take up snatch-thiefing as a profession.

Haiya....clams are in
06.14.04 (10:06 pm)

The reason I love NOKIA is because they don't have clam-phones but alas they have now turned to the dark side.

I just feel that these type of phones are just plain clumsy. Everytime you need to answer a call you have to flip and answer. That flipping action can sometimes be very clumbersome, especially in a car with the phone in your pocket. Death to all clam-phones!

Instant noodles = instant passport. These guys should be given an award for creativity....
[LINE]

There are still 15 days to go till junior comes along although I am expecting the junior will come early. I finally set-up the baby cot and re-arranged the bedroom to accomodate the cot.

My organised mess of a room has now been fairly cleaned up. I just couldn't believe the amount of junk I have piled up on my side of the room. I'm a pack rat....

My sister has just gone of to the local university leaving my mum feeling rather lonely so she is really looking forward to junior. She'll have a hands full but I know she'll enjoy it.

Mother-in-law will arrive on the 27th. I'm pretty calm about that though I am praying she'll get along with my mother. Being the traditional chinese that she is, she'll have a lot of old-wives tales to tell wifey. Her lists of taboos look like the yellow pages. My mother on the other hand is pretty modern and doesn't really hold on to such things. She'll want to have her say on how to do things...God help me.

Hot under the sun
06.13.04 (7:09 pm)
8) The weather is really hot due to the volcano eruption in Indonesia. The volcano dust has formed a blanket over the island of Borneo. This has cause heat to accumulate on the ground rather then being disperse into the atmosphere. So it's akin to sitting inside an oven.

Wifey kept me awake last night. I am a light sleeper and everytime she wakes up I also wake up....I am begging baby to come out...

England got beaten! I don't believe it, sigh....I just lost a wager with an office mate. The EURO 2004 is going to be a really nerve wreaking time for some of us who are football junkies.

Thank God that the time difference forces us Malaysians to wake up at about 2AM in the morning to watch the matches. It puts off people like me who value sleep but I see a lot of sleepy office mates....

Building Homes
06.09.04 (7:19 pm)
8) My plans for building up my own house is on hold for the moment. The cost of building material has sky-rocketed to Mars. I intended to start construction at year end but with the current prices in metal and oil so unpredictable that plan has be shelved until probably mid-next year.

Spent the best part of this morning looking for J2SE (Java software) in order to run my mind mapping tool. Finally managed to download it from an alternative site from the SUN Java site. Looks like they are having problems with their download page.

In yesterdays blog I sounded depress. Well last nite I didn't sleep well. Nothing to do with my pregnant wifey turning down the air-conditioning to near freezing degrees but rather being haunted by financial demons.

It seems that all things in our life (in one way or another) is govern by some financial equation. Whether it is our salary which governs expenditure every month or the price of metal which practically affects everything else.

There was a time when bean sprouts were good business selling at RM7 per KG (1USD = RM3.8). Bean sprouts! You grow them in a bucket and sell them at a fortune...

Anyway, we cannot deny the fact that financial equations govern our lives. An unability to control these forces would certainly invite the demons to party. To constantly ask you whether you could feed your family in the coming month, to remind you on the out-standing bills that linger in the shadows and bombard you with the whisper of "You need to earn more...".

Well, I'm facing my demons and tackling these issues head-on plus it's time I set up that baby cot...

Sitting in the shadows
06.09.04 (8:00 am)
 Finally managed to login into tblog again. Now, the past week has been slow for me since I went on holiday. Spent time with wifey watching movies and doing some shopping. Junior is due on the 30th of this month but we are already on watch. I timed my drive to the hospital, I can make it in about 10 minutes provided the traffic doesn't slow me down.

Purchased a GReddy Turbo Timer for about RM400. Fixed it into my Honda EG9 and was happy for a while until my brother told me that the listed price for that gadget was RM260 (Kuala Lumpur price). I got really pissed. Extremely pissed. I was over-charged by about RM140.

Apparently, when these gadgets first came out early this year they were priced around RM300 - Rm400 but as of last month the prices were reviewed and the price came down to RM200++. I didn't know this...

But what really pissed me off more is that this situation showcases the story of my life. I tend to jump into things without thinking and it leaves me regretting. I don't know about you but I'm really pissed off with everything...
